Hot Air Balloon Akagera National Park

Hot Air Balloon Akagera; Akagera National Park is located in Eastern Rwanda along the international border with Tanzania. It covers an area of 1,122 square kilometres and was named after the Kagera River that flows along the eastern boundary, which feeds Lake Ihema and other smaller lakes. There are several activities taking place in Akagera National Park, and the most recommended activity one should not miss on their visit to this park is the hot air balloon experience.

Hot Air Balloon Akagera experience

This activity was launched on 17th January 2022 by Royal Balloon Rwanda in Akagera National Park in collaboration with Akagera Management Company and Rwanda Development Board. This can be practiced to heights of 1000 meters above Akagera national parks covered savannah and can carry about 4-6 passengers per trip. This additional activity to the park has helped the local communities surrounding the area in terms of employment opportunities and enhanced conservation through educating the locals about the importance of conserving the environment for future generations.

The process

The hot air balloon is conducted by Royal Balloon Rwanda and always begins early in the morning. It is always advisable, with the help of your reliable tour operator, to make sure you are on the briefing plane as early as possible. At the briefing point, you will be provided with instructions to follow in regard to this activity. This is also another chance to also take good photographs as the balloon is being assembled by the experienced pilots, as well as capture the scenery of the beautiful surroundings.

This follows with a celebration with a bottle of champagne, and after a certificate of completion will be handed to every participant in memory of this magnificent experience. A trip into the land of a thousand hills should also be accompanied with such a wonderful experience of the hot air balloon.
