Process of Gorilla Habituation Experience in Bwindi
The gorilla habituation process was introduced in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). Tourists with gorilla habituation experience are required to report at the briefing point as early as 7 a.m. During the briefing, you are required to observe the rules and regulations of gorilla habituation, and you are required to abide by them. At 7:30am, you will be led to the forest by a well-equipped ranger guide from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).
As you trek through the forest, expect to see other animals as well as bird species. This is a great opportunity to see the mountain gorillas for four full hours, and this is made possible by being led by researchers and experienced guides from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) that help in monitoring and data collection. This exercise helps tourists to witness and learn more about the behaviours of these gentle giants as they get close to the presence of humans.
Tourists should take note that they begin the day by following these gentle giants from the time they get out of their nests, monitoring them as they look out for food, grooming, and nursing their young ones. For one to enjoy this activity, tourists should be physically fit since the exercise involves treading through the steep hills and dense forest with rugged terrain.
The Gorilla Habituation Experience (GHEX) permit costs USD 1,500 and can be purchased only from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) with the help of your reliable tour operator.
