Where is mount Elgon situated?
Mount Elgon is located in the eastern Uganda along the Uganda Kenya border, northeast of lake Victoria. The mountain spreads across both Uganda and Kenya despite that the larger part of the mountain and its protected areas are found on the side of Uganda.

THE HISTORY AND FORMATION OF MOUNT ELGON
Mount Elgon is among one of Africa’s oldest extinct volcanoes and was formed millions of years ago by a volcanic activity. The mountain was formed by volcanic forces pushed large amounts of lava and rock upward thus creating one of the largest volcanic mountains in east Africa.
Long ago, Mount Elgon was considered to have been even high than mount Kilimanjaro. Nevertheless, thousands of years of erosion gradually shaped the mountain into the beautiful scenery observed today. Therefore, today mount Elgon stands at 4,321 meters above sea level with Wagagai peak being the highest point on the side of Uganda. THE HIKING EXPERIENCE AT MOUNT ELGON
The mount Elgon hiking experience starts from the main trailheads around the mountain including budadiri, Kapchorwa or the sipi falls area. before embarking on the trek, hikers will meet their experienced guides and support team who will offer important information about the hiking route, safety procedures, the wildlife and plants along the trail.
The journey starts through the local communities where hikers experience the attractive countryside of eastern Uganda. The first stage of the hike offers views of coffee plantations, traditional villages, rolling hills and green farms.
The forest zone
