Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to volcanoes national park

Depending on the time of arrival, the safari guide will pick you and brief you about the wildlife safari. After, you will embark on the journey to Volcanoes National Park. On arrival, you will check into the lodge for relaxation and prepare the next day’s activities.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking

After morning breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing about the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. After you will be allocated a gorilla family that you will trek.

Then head into the forest in search of the gorilla family. Once they are located, you will spend an hour with them in their natural habitat. After, you will return to the lodge for late lunch and relaxation

Day 3: Transfer to akagera national park

After morning breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and embark on the journey to Akagera National Park. Upon arrival, you will check into the lodge for relaxation as you prepare for the next day’s activities of your African safari.

Day 4: Game drive and boat cruise safari

Wake up so early for a morning game drive in Akagera National Park. While on the game drive, expect to encounter the Big Five, including lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, cape buffaloes and rhinos. Other animals include hyenas, waterbucks, warthogs, and zebras, as well as bird species. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for breakfast and relaxation.

In the afternoon, you will head out for a boat cruise at Lake Ihema, which is the second largest lake in Rwanda after Lake Kivu. While on the boat cruise, you will encounter species such as hippos, buffaloes, and big crocodiles, as well as bird species such as malachite kingfishers, shoebill storks, African fish eagles, goliath herons, and cormorants, among others. After the boat cruise, return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer back to Kigali and departure

After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on the journey back to Kigali. Depending on the flight schedule, you may have a short city tour where you will visit places such as Kimironko market, artisan shops, the Kigali genocide memorial and many more. After, you will be dropped at the airport for your flight back home or at your hotel.
