3 Days Rwanda Chimps And Canopy Walk Safari

The 3 days Rwanda safari is a short African safari adventure that starts in Kigali Rwanda. The safari takes you to Nyungwe Forest National Park, where you will spend time with the endangered chimpanzees during your trekking experience. Besides the chimpanzee trekking safari, tourists will have a city tour in Kigali and a canopy walk where you will enjoy an aerial view of the park.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to nyungwe forest national park

Depending on the time of arrival, you will be picked up from the airport or your hotel and be briefed by the safari guide. After, you will pass through Kigali and later proceed to Nyungwe Forest National Park. After arriving, you will settle into the lodge to unwind and get ready for the activities of the following day.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk

After morning breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing where you will be told about the dos and don’ts of chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing, you will start trekking into the forest, where you will follow vocal calls, rustling leaves and fresh signs of chimpanzee activity.

Once the chimpanzees are located, you will spend an hour watching them as they swing through trees, groom each other, feed, and communicate loudly, thus creating a memorable primate safari experience. After, you will return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, you will embark on the renowned canopy walk, commencing at the Uwinka visitors center, accessible via the Igishigishigi trail. The canopy walk is 160 meters long and 70 meters high from the ground. While on the canopy walk, which takes 2 hours, you will enjoy beautiful aerial views of the forest and treetops and view different birds and primates, among others. After the canopy walk, you will return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Departure

Waking up at leisure, you will have breakfast and check out of the lodge and embark on your journey back home. On arrival at Kigali, you will have a city tour where you will visit places like the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Kandt House, artisan/craft centers, kimironko market and many more. Afterwards, you will enjoy lunch before your drop-off at the Kigali International Airport for your flight back home.
