Tour Plan
Your solo birding adventure begins with an early morning departure from your hotel or guesthouse in Entebbe. Your private birding guide will drive you to Mabamba Wetland, a protected marsh on the edge of Lake Victoria, where you’ll board a dugout canoe to explore the papyrus channels in search of the Shoebill Stork — one of Uganda’s most sought-after bird species. Other possible sightings include Blue-breasted Bee-eater, African Jacana, and Goliath Heron.
After a successful morning, continue to Mpanga Forest Reserve, a small but bird-rich rainforest home to species such as White-spotted Flufftail, Green Hylia, Western Nicator, and African Paradise Flycatcher. Take a guided walk under the forest canopy, noting forest specials and enjoying the solitude of birding alone in nature.
After the walk, drive southwest toward Lake Mburo National Park, arriving in the late afternoon or evening. Enjoy your evening at a nature lodge on the park's edge, surrounded by bird calls and scenic savannah views.

Wake up to the call of the Red-chested Cuckoo and enjoy breakfast before heading into Lake Mburo National Park for a full day of birding. This park is an excellent spot for acacia and savannah species, including Red-faced Barbet, Bare-faced Go-away-bird, Black-collared Barbet, Tabora Cisticola, and Lilac-breasted Roller.
You’ll begin with a game drive-style birding session, stopping frequently to scan for target species. Later, take a boat cruise on Lake Mburo, where you may spot the African Finfoot, White-backed Night Heron, Malachite Kingfisher, and African Fish Eagle. You’ll also see hippos, crocodiles, and perhaps zebras or impalas along the shoreline.
In the afternoon, enjoy a guided birding walk along the park’s edge, which offers close encounters with ground-dwelling species like the African Wattled Lapwing and Temminck’s Courser. Return to your lodge for a peaceful evening of checklist updates and bird photography reviews with your guide.

Your return journey will be flexible, with strategic birding stopovers along wetlands and bushland patches en route.
