Our 3 days gorilla trekking safari starts in Kigali and ends in Kigali. The journey will take you to Volcanoes National Park, also known as Parc National de Volcans, famously known to be home of the mountain gorillas. You are also given the opportunity to visit the genocide memorial site, where guides will take you through the horrific events that happened in the year 1994. Volcanoes National Park has over 7 habituated gorilla families where tourists are allowed to spend one full hour with these gentle giants.

Tracking involves hiking as you pass through the dense forests and the steep mountain. Coming face to face with these mountain gorillas is one of the most rewarding, thrilling, and unforgettable experiences one should not miss in a lifetime. These 3 day gorilla trekking tour gives you the opportunity to explore diverse cultures as you get to visit the Iby’iwacu, also known as the gorilla guardians’ village. You get to learn more about the history of the land of a thousand hills, most especially through kingship.

Tour Plan

Arrive at Kigali International Airport where you will be met by your guide. Drive northwest to Volcanoes National Park through scenic hills and local villages. Arrive at your lodge and relax, enjoying the views of the surrounding volcanoes. Overnight near the park.

After an early breakfast drive to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking rules and safety. You will then trek through the forest in search of a gorilla family. The trek can take between two and six hours depending on the gorillas’ location. Once found you will spend one hour observing these gentle giants. Return to your lodge for relaxation in the afternoon. Overnight near the park.

After breakfast you may visit the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo or a nearby local community for a cultural experience. Later drive back to Kigali with a stop for lunch before transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
